About the role
AISHA is an advanced AI healthcare assistant designed to deliver personalized, accessible, and intelligent healthcare experiences to users across Africa and beyond. AISHA leverages natural language processing, clinical decision support, and machine learning to provide real-time health guidance, symptom assessment, medication management, and care coordination — bridging the gap between patients and quality healthcare services. As a Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying features, working closely with frontend developers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and top-tier performance. You will design, develop, and maintain APIs and backend services supporting web and mobile applications, build scalable and high-performance systems, optimize application performance, collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and improve features, write clean and well-documented code, troubleshoot and debug complex issues, and stay current with industry trends and best practices in backend development.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. 6 months to 2 years of experience in backend development — SIWES and NYSC applicants are welcome. Sound knowledge of Node.js for backend development. Strong Java programming skills. Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and database design. Familiarity with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud technologies including Azure. Proficiency in version control with Git and agile methodologies. Solid understanding of security and data protection practices. Good understanding of TypeScript is a plus. Experience with Express.js and NestJS frameworks is a plus. Familiarity with unit testing using Jest is a plus. Relational database experience with MySQL is a plus. Experience with Linux-based operating systems including SSH, file management, and service management is a plus and will be tested in a real-time interview environment. Ability to work independently and flexibly in a fast-paced startup environment.
