Lead AI Engineer - Financial Inclusion

M-KOPA provides affordable financial and digital products to underserved communities across Africa, having helped over 7 million customers access $2 billion in credit. They're hiring their first Lead AI Engineer to build and lead a brand-new AI Operations team — shipping automations and AI agents that improve how 2,500+ employees work across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, the UK, and Europe. You'll lead two AI Ops Engineers, prioritize across competing team requests, build agents using frameworks like Claude, LangChain, and MCP, and serve as an internal consultant helping Engineering integrate AI into customer-facing products.

Technical Build: Hands-on experience building automated and AI-powered workflows to solve complex business problems. ​ Agentic Frameworks: Hands-on experience building agents using frameworks like LangChain, Autogen, or CrewAI. ​LLM Proficiency: Deep understanding of prompting, fine-tuning, and performance monitoring of Large Language Models. ​ Project Leadership: Ability to manage technical projects from concept to production, working closely with engineering and product teams. ​ Infrastructure: Experience with tools like Python, SQL, and cloud-based AI services
