About the role
Holepunch is building a peer-to-peer development platform that eliminates the need for servers entirely — apps deploy directly from the developer's machine, scale effortlessly, and give users full control over their data. Their P2P stack, Hypercore, is built on battle-hardened Node.js and powers Keet, their flagship P2P communications app. They're hiring a P2P Node.js Engineer to expand and strengthen their core networking and storage primitives — working across a wide surface area of P2P technology including protocols, NAT traversal, cryptographic communication, and high-performance network optimization.
What we're looking for
5+ years of experience building production P2P or distributed systems; extensive knowledge of P2P protocols (Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, Hypercore); advanced JavaScript skills for high-performance networking code; deep understanding of UDP, TCP/IP, and NAT traversal techniques; experience implementing custom binary protocols and serialization formats; familiarity with cryptographic primitives for secure P2P communication; experience with performance profiling and networked system optimization; knowledge of V8 internals, libuv, and Node.js native addons are a strong plus; open-source contributions to P2P or networking projects are a bonus.
