About the role
ARD builds autonomous systems for the Arctic — one of the most hostile and strategically vital environments on Earth. Founded by record-holding polar pioneers, they're hiring a Perception Engineer to build the eyes for autonomous platforms operating in whiteout conditions, polar night, and ice fog where traditional perception stacks fail. You'll design and deploy perception pipelines for surface, subsurface, and aerial platforms, fuse multi-modal sensor data, build ML models for ice classification and obstacle detection, and support real field deployments in the Arctic — iterating rapidly on live data collected at -40°C.
What we're looking for
5+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomy, or real-world ML perception systems; strong foundation in computer vision, SLAM, and multi-sensor fusion (LiDAR, radar, IMU, GNSS, vision); proficiency in Python and C++ with production-grade engineering practices; experience with ROS/ROS2, OpenCV, PyTorch, or TensorFlow; comfort working with real sensors, calibration workflows, and noisy data; track record of shipping perception systems outside controlled environments; willingness to travel to and operate in extreme cold during field testing.
