About the role

Canonical is hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regional team of field engineers supporting customer solution architecture, presales activities, and professional services engagements focused on embedded Linux and IoT technologies. The role combines technical leadership, people management, and customer-facing engineering work within Canonical’s globally distributed remote environment. You will guide engineers working on Ubuntu-based embedded systems, secure connected devices, firmware, Linux boot systems, and edge computing solutions while collaborating with customers across multiple industries. The position also involves mentoring engineers, improving engineering processes, representing the team to stakeholders, and helping organizations adopt secure open-source technologies for mission-critical systems and connected devices.

What we're looking for

Candidates should possess deep expertise in embedded Linux systems, including Yocto, Ubuntu, Debian, firmware workflows, and low-level Linux development. Strong programming ability in languages such as Python, Golang, C, C++, or Rust is expected alongside experience managing technical teams and engaging directly with customers in presales or consulting environments. Applicants should have strong communication and leadership skills, a solid academic background, and the ability to explain technical concepts in business-oriented ways. Experience with RTOS environments, distributed remote teams, IoT systems, and embedded software methodologies is highly valuable. The ideal candidate is adaptable, technically strong, customer-focused, and comfortable operating in fast-moving engineering organizations with global collaboration.
